Artist & Title: Genesis – The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway
The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway: Rare original 1974 UK 1st pressing 23-track pink 'Mad Hatter' label double vinyl LP with 'b & c records' credit and A-2U/B-2U/A-2U/B-2U matrices with 'porky + johnnie' & 'porky' & 'pecko' run off groove etchings. The last album to feature vocalist Peter Gabriel, housed in a gatefold picture sleeve, with narrative on inside of cover, and original lyric inners. Showing only very mild yellowing and just a few very light storage marks to the sleeve with barely any sign of play, both sleeve and vinyl are in Excellent condition – a superb copy.
Highly desirable for its first press matrices, and hard enough to find in good condition, this copy is in Excellent condition (many dealers would grade this album Near Mint). And as these first pressings come up so infrequently in this condition this could be a once in a lifetime opportunity to add this extreme rarity to your collection at an extremely advantageous price.

This unique, rare, FIRST PRESSING, Genesis double LP from the creative peak of the band’s Peter Gabriel era is hardly ever offered for sale in this condition.
This is the extremely rare real thing: a GENUINE first UK pressing in Excellent condition. The records, gatefold picture sleeve, and inner lyric sleeves are both in superb condition, without any obvious signs of use (the only thing that betrays their 40 years of age is some minor discolouration and a tiny bump to the bottom edge of the cover). See pics. All items are the genuine originals bought together by me in 1974 not reprints. The LPs are the original first press stereo LPs, which were only played on top-end audiophile equipment and lovingly cared for.
THIS HAS TO BE ONE OF THE BEST EXAMPLES OF THIS UNIQUE ALBUM EVER OFFERED FOR SALE IN RECENT TIMES
The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway is a double concept album recorded and released in 1974 by the British rock band Genesis. It was their sixth studio album and the last album by the group to feature the involvement of lead singer Peter Gabriel.
The album tells the surreal story of a half Puerto Rican juvenile delinquent named Rael living in New York City, who is swept underground to face bizarre creatures and nightmarish dangers in order to rescue his brother John. Several of the story's occurrences and places were derived from Peter Gabriel's dreams, and the protagonist's name is a play on his surname. In the 1991 documentary "Genesis: A History", Phil Collins remarked, "It's about a 'split personality' (referring to the live performance of "it."). In this context, Rael would believe he is looking for John but is actually looking for a missing part of himself. The individual songs also make satirical allusions to mythology, the sexual revolution, advertising, and consumerism. The title track, "The Carpet Crawlers", and "In the Cage" are live favourites for the band. Both "In the Cage" and "The Carpet Crawlers" were included in 2007's Turn it On Again: The Tour, with "The Carpet Crawlers" played as the closing number.
This may be your only ONCE IN A LIFETIME chance to own this piece of rock history in near mint condition.
“Let me start by saying that this album is definitely a ‘desert island selection’ – if I were limited to ten (progressive) discs, THE LAMB LIES DOWN ON BROADWAY would have to be one to load into the dugout canoe.”
Given all the overt literary references of Selling England by the Pound, along with their taste for epic suites such as "Supper's Ready," it was only a matter of time before Genesis attempted a full-fledged concept album, and 1974's The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway was a massive rock opera: the winding, wielding story of a Puerto Rican hustler name Rael making his way in New York City. Peter Gabriel made some tentative moves toward developing this story into a movie with William Friedkin but it never took off, perhaps it's just as well; even with the lengthy libretto included with the album, the story never makes sense. But just because the story is rather impenetrable doesn't mean that the album is as well, because it is a forceful, imaginative piece of work that showcases the original Genesis line-up at a peak. Even if the story is rather hard to piece together, the album is set up in a remarkable fashion, with the first LP being devoted to pop-oriented rock songs and the second being largely devoted to instrumentals. This means that The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway contains both Genesis' most immediate music to date and its most elliptical. Depending on a listener's taste, they may gravitate toward the first LP with its tight collection of ten rock songs, or the nightmarish landscapes of the second, where Rael descends into darkness and ultimately redemption (or so it would seem), but there's little question that the first album is far more direct than the second and it contains a number of masterpieces, from the opening fanfare of the title song to the surging "In the Cage," from the frightening "Back in NYC" to the soothing conclusion "The Carpet Crawlers." In retrospect, this first LP plays a bit more like the first Gabriel solo album than the final Genesis album, but there's also little question that the band helps form and shape this music (with Brian Eno adding extra colouring on occasion), while Genesis shines as a group shines on the impressionistic second half. In every way, it's a considerable, lasting achievement and it's little wonder that Peter Gabriel had to leave the band after this record: they had gone as far as they could go together, and could never top this extraordinary album.
