Description
GENNETT 5408, the Wolverine Orchestra with Bix Beiderbecke. Recorded Feb 18, 1924. This is Bix's FIRST RECORDING on disc! Aside from this historical significance, this record is elusive because it was not published in the national trade papers, and was NOT distributed nationally! It was provided to only select dealers in the mid-West. Here is a picture of the Wolverine's at the Gennett studio in Richmond, Indiana. This picture was taken Feb 18, 1924.......THE DAY THIS RECORD WAS PRODUCED! Admire the recording horn sticking out from behind the wall curtain! Bix is second from the right, seated. Additional note......Bix didn't know how to read music at this time!
I conservatively grade this as a VG to a VG+. No chips, no cracks, no warping, no dug grooves. Plays LOUD, CLEAR, and STRONG. Must not have been played much at all. Grading is all subjective, so I am providing you with full side photos of the disc, using the camera flash to accent the record with higher resolution, to highlight its great condition.
