Description

Today, probably few folks have heard of "Moxie," but at one time it was the most popular soft drink in the USA, even outselling Coke and Pepsi! It is America's oldest carbonated beverage continuously on the market (invented in 1876). It is still popular and available in Northeastern New England, particularly in the state of Maine, where an annual Moxie Festival in the town of Lisbon Falls, draws 30,000 people. The Maine State Legislature recently voted Moxie as the Official State Soft Drink. This 78rpm disc was recorded on November 3, 1921, and features the song "Moxie" on both sides. The A side is a snappy fox trot by Harry Raderman's Orchestra, while on the reverse, Arthur Fields does a vocal rendition. Moxie's advertising record was issued by Gennett in two label designs. One, such as this, is black with gold printing, and a second style was white with black printing. I would say that both patterns are equally scarce. The labels on both sides of this disc are in perfect condition. The record itself is in flawless excellent-plus (E+) condition on the A side, and excellent to excellent-plus (E to E+) on the B side, just beautiful! Included is a small piece of paper (apparently done by a previous owner) with the Arthur Field's Moxie lyrics.
