The Real Non Bootlegged Album

HOW TO TELL IT"s REAL


1) The genuine album has no left or lower borders on the picture on the back.
The back cover is created by a square picture pasted over the cardboard.
There are no white borders on this picture. On the bottom
edge of the back, the picture from the front of the cover wraps
around to the back, and the back cover picture is pasted over the
wrap-around area. Most counterfeits have some white border at the left
and/or lower borders. Both genuine albums and counterfeits
have borders at the other edges (usually).

2) The picture on the counterfeit is less detailed than the original (since
it's a picture of the original!) It's hard to explain most of the
differences without reference to the real thing, but look for things
like: the labels on the three bottles in the background on the back
cover should be blurry but the writing/graphics on the labels
should be visible. On the counterfeits, these labels are usually
nearly black (particularly the bottle on the right). The upper
outline of Joel's left hand should be distinguishable. On the
counterfeits, usually this portion of the picture is nearly all black.

3) The original label (non white label promo) is a bluish-green. The color of
the label gets a bit darker as you proceed from the outside in. It should
NOT be a flat color for the entirety of the label. On the original,
there should be white stars on the label in the region where
the outline of an animal appears. Many counterfeits do not
have the stars.

4) The run-off groove: On the originals that I've seen, there's a small
triangle that's sort-of scratched out. I've not seen this on the
counterfeits.
