George Washington and Band – Open The Door Richard / I'll Turn Square For You - 78 RPM Ace (17) – 150
Released in February 1947, this Ace 78 RPM captures a unique entry in one of the most explosive novelty crazes in American music history. The A-side, "Open The Door Richard," is a Rhythm & Blues interpretation of the famous vaudeville routine by Dusty Fletcher. This version features Parr Jones on vocals and delivers the signature comedic "knocking" rhythm and catchphrase that swept the nation that year. The song was so popular in 1947 that versions were simultaneously on the charts by several different artists, but this recording on the independent Ace label offers a raw, authentic R&B flavor often missing from the more "polished" big-label covers.
