1969 Japan Teichiku LP 1st issue of the Newport All Stars, featuring Barney Kessel, Red Norvo, Ruby Braff, George Wein, Larry Ridley and Joe Venuti - recorded in Japan, released only in Japan, and probably not reissued in any format yet.

What's inside this LP:

Back in October 1969, “The 1st Newport Jazz Festival In Tokyo”was taken place at Sankei Hall, Tokyo, Japan. This festival featured Dizzy Gillespie Quintet, Sarah Vaughan and her trio, Newport All Starsand several Japanese groups including Sado Watanabe Quintet, Nobuo Hara and his Sharps and Flats, and many more.

Before the Jazz Festival was taken place, George Wein (a famous producer of Newport Jazz Festival, RI, as well as a leader of the Newport All Stars) and Teichiku Records did a contract to record some session by the Newport All Stars in Tokyo. And this album UPS-49 was the result.

This album consists of nine tracks. The first and the last tracks are performed by the All Stars, while other tracks primarily features each member's performance. Overall, it's a very relaxed, comfortable, emotional and exciting performance - a great Mainstream Jazz album.

Members consist of Ruby Braff (cor), George Wein (p), Barney Kessel (g), Red Norvo (vib), Joe Venuti (vln), Larry Ridley (b), Cliff Leeman (ds).
Recorded at Teichiku Kaikan Studio, Tokyo, Japan on October 8, 1969.

Condition of this copy:

Cover: EX+ (8).
General mild wear (see the scan). As an old Japanese LP album back from 1969, it still keeps the more beautiful condition than avarage.
It's a gorgeous gatefold jacket, covered with textured silver foil paper and gold print on front. Inside the gatefold cover, a poster (a picture at the Newport Jazz Festival, RI) is attached. Also a detailed liner-notes by Shoichi Yui (the producer of this recording) is printed inside the gatefold.

Disc: EX+ (8) to NM- (9).
Not a perfect mintish copy as it's 38 years-old.Light paper scuffs on Side-B. Spindle trails on the label.Otherwise the vinyl itself still looks nice and plays in great fidelity.

Paper insert: N/A.
This UPS-49 didn't originally come with separate paper insert.
Instead, liner-notes by the producer and the poster is located inside the gatefold jacket.

OBI (a paper strap which is common in Japanese releases): missing.

Stereo LPs are auditioned with DENON DL-103R or Audio Technica AT-OC9 carts, while Mono LPs with Audio Technica AT-MONO3/LP or Ortofon CG25Di carts.
