Description

This auction is for the very rare latin funk soul Lp from 1972 on the NY based Salsa label (SLP 2008). I was given this Lp many years ago by a family member who is an old school latin musician. The Ghetto Brothers were a Bronx based street gang founded by Benjamin Melendez who were more politically and sociallly minded and part of a growing Puerto Rican socialist movement (similar to the Young Lords). These brothers cut a rare latin obscurity focusing on a message of peace & unity that sounded more soulful and psychedelic than Latin. I have been told the Ghetto Brothers helped broker a truce between street gangs at a meeting where a young Afrika Bambaataa was present and the rest is history. I will leave the details to more knowledgeable historians but know that the record is a tough one to find. The Lp cover is in VG+ shape and still has the shrink ( I cracked the shrink when I received it) and very clean. There is no writing, rips, or bent corners. the back cover is also in very good condition. The vinyl is exceptionally clean however, unfortunately there is a hairline that runs through the first track which will definitely affect play. It is noticeable and appears as a scuff on the leading edge turning into a hairline crack (see pic). If there was no defect it would possibly grade much higher. The Lp has a clean shiny gloss (I never played it or thought much about playing until a friend lent me the reissue CD- When I told him I owned the Lp, he was surprised). The label is very clean, shiny and has no writing or markings. It is requested the winner pay for insurance and priority mail shipping. International buyers must clear through Paypal and pay additional shipping cost within 5 business days.
