Description
ITEM DESCRIPTION:
This beautiful and very rare 7” 45rpm EP from RCA (SRC-7018, disc pressed in France / jacket printed in the UK, blue/silver “Living Stereo” label, front laminated jacket) features 3 tracks from Alexander Gibson’s legendary “Witches’ Brew” album (LSC-2225), long recommended as a top audiophile recording by the journal The Absolute Sound (TAS).
The 3 tracks heard on this EP are listed here:
Side 1
Saint-Saëns: Danse macabre Op. 40
Side 2
Mussorgsky-Ravel: Gnomus, from Pictures at an Exhibition
Humperdinck: Witches’ Ride, from Hansel and Gretel
As I cannot provide a finer or more succinct description, I have used the following, found on popsike:: “"Probably one of the most famous RCA's from the early stereo era. Catalog # LSC-2225. This is very rare since it was of limited supply in the USA after being recorded in England by UK Decca. Recorded in Kingsway Hall in London. Under the direction of Alexander Gibson conducting the New Symphony Orchestra of London. This is my pick for the most dynamic record RCA ever produced. Engineered by Kenneth Wilkinson and Ray Minshull. This record, known for its 3-D imaging, was recorded Dec. 1957. The Decca team used there famous Decca three miking technique which is a little different than US engineers. I personally feel that this is one of the top 5 RCA recordings of all time."
Incidentally, the fine liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket, provided in English only, were written by Robert A. Simon for Radio Corporation of America, 1958.
CONDITION - PLEASE READ VERY CAREFULLY:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is VERY GOOD. There is minor bumping/wear at corners, as well as slight creasing and mild discoloration/ringwear to the rear panel. However, there are no seamsplits, owners’ markings, or other defects, and the jacket remains solid, bright, glossy, and quite striking in appearance – overall, a very good collector's copy.
The condition of the EP itself is VERY GOOD. The surfaces are not CD silent, but in general the playback is excellent. However, if you desire a flawless or near-MINT copy then you are kindly advised to look elsewhere. Overall, this rates as a very good collector’s copy.
