I've only ever found this edition of "Glad Sounds" (with this cover) once, on the Japanese Reggae Collector store, where it is selling for $195 ... and theirs has major water-damage!
Merritone #207, pressed for the local market in Jamaica. This is not the red sleeve export version or the British or Japanese reissue, but the Original Jamaican pressing of this impossible-to-find album. This may be one of the last copies of this record in the world. LP is in very good condition, normal usage wear but no major scratches or scuffs, very playable. Sleeve shows the effects of casual storage for 45 years, but the original shrink wrap is still on it. No drill hole or cut-out saw mark. Ring wear on jacket and edge wear on the open side (see photo), no split seams or tears.
Instrumental rocksteady gems by piano maestro Gladstone Anderson along with guitar pioneer Lynn Taitt, recorded at Federal Studios in 1968, right at the earliest front of ska and reggae. Still alive and playing in Jamaica, pianist Gladstone "Gladdy" Anderson is the pioneer soundsmith of ska and reggae (he invented the term "rock steady") and this record was a vital influence in the British ska and Two-Tone scene. Scratch guitarist, producer and session musician Lynn Taitt invented the rock steady bassline used so effectively on this record. The rest of the Jets, Hux Brown, Headley Bennett, Hopeton Lewis and Winston Wright, define the light, poppy ska sound.
Gotta love the slogans on the disc, including "Music like dirt" and the iconic "Don't watch that! watch this!" adopted by British ska band Madness more than 10 years later.
