First album from 12 string wizard Gordon Giltrap. The sleeve notes contain the following “It's very likely that Gordon Giltrap will become a guitarist's guitarist.”

That's certainly right and he's still around after numerous albums, tours and articles on guitar playing. I had the pleasure of seeing him in a duo with Ric Sanders and that was a dazzling show.

To the album:-

The flip back  laminated sleeve is in excellent condition*. The back is not laminated and is a little dingy half way up the open edge. There is a separate photograph of the back of the sleeve. There is a plain white inner sleeve which has yellowed at bit since 1968.

The record itself is in excellent condition*. The record has the lilac “t” label. Under a strong light there are a few very light marks, nothing to detract from the sound quality which is excellent. Very important on an album of guitar and vocal only. I guess the only criticism is that it's a bit short, scraping in at about 30 minutes. (No doubt that's why the CD version is this album and “Portrait”).

You should check out the quality on the attached eCommerce Player. (In fact my request/demand is that you listen before placing any bid.) You would know it was vinyl but I guess that's what you are seeking.

(This album recorded on my Linn Sondek turntable using “Audacity”, exported as a 256 kbps MP3 file and uploaded into eCommerce Player. No editing whatsoever just a pause as I turned the disc over.)

Record Collector Magazine's Grading Guide:

MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and / or creasing.

VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.

FAIR: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and / or defaced.

POOR: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

BAD: The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection filler.
