Description
ITEM DESCRIPTION:
This beautiful LP – a fine collector’s copy – from Columbia Masterworks (ML 5186, US pressing, gray/black 6eye label, mono – no stereo edition exists, original inner sleeve included) features the great Glenn Gould in masterly and probing performances of Bach’s Partitas No. 5 in G Major BWV 829 and No. 6 in E minor BWV 830, both recorded at Columbia 30th Street Studio, New York City, in 1957 – landmarks in the Bach discography.
Incidentally, the striking cover photo of Gould was taken by Fred Plaut, and there are excellent liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket by Alvin Bauman, printed in English only.
CONDITION:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is EXCELLENT++. There is slight bumping at corners and mild shelfwear, but that is all. There are no seamsplits, bends, owners' markings, or other defects and the album remains solid, bright, glossy, and very striking in appearance – overall, a lovely collector's copy.
The condition of the LP itself is near-MINT. Although surfaces are not absolutely silent (and thus I have rated it NM vs. MINT), really this is a very fine copy and playback is truly superb. However, if you must have absolutely perfect surfaces, then please do not buy this LP. Overall, this rates as a very fine collector's copy.
