Description
This is the second of a series of auctions featuring the cream of British jazz at the end of the sixties and early seventies.
This very hard to find album was released on Fontana 639006 in 1970 and features tip-top musicians of the time. The line-up is Graham Collier (bass), Harry Beckett (trumpet and flugelhorn) Alan Wakeman (tenor and soprano saxes), Bob Sydor (tenor and alto saxes), John Taylor (piano) and Chick Webb (drums).
The record has no visible marks, plays wonderfully, and I would grade it as ‘excellent +’. (All my records are played on a Project Debut turntable).
The cover has also lasted well, with few signs of any real marking. I would grade it as ‘excellent –‘.
This record is extremely collectable and should form a key part of any serious collector of British modern jazz. I will continue to auction albums of a similar quality over the next few weeks.
My records are graded in accordance with Record Collector's Grading System as follows: MINT(M)The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any other items are in perfect condition. EXCELLENT (EX): The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing. VERY GOOD (VG): The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable. GOOD (G): The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc + or - indicates a grading in between categories
