Description
Gooden's Corner / Grant Green
(Blue Note / KING GXF-3058)
1979 King 1st LP issue, complete with OBI and paper insert
What is this copy:
1979 Japan King 1st LP release of Grant Green's another unreleased quartet session with Sonny Clark which was unreleased at the time. This GXF-3058 was one of the “Blue Note Worldwide First Appearance” series (GXF-3051 thru GXF-3072). This Japanese LP was the worldwide first issue of the recording. Later, this LP was reissued as GXK-8168 (Japan King 2nd issue in 1981). All titles of this series are extremely rare and very hard to find even in Japan. Japan King LPs, not only the Blue Note reissues but also other labels' reissues, are sought after for high fidelity pressings with courteous respect for original issues.
What's inside this LP:
Among many Grant Green unreleased sessions left on Blue Note label, I can say there are two top-notch sessions: the one is May 20, 1964 session with McCoy Tyner and Elvin Jones, released as “Matador” (King GXF-3053); the other is January 13, 1962 session with Sonny Clark and Art Blakey, released as “Nigeria” (Blue Note LT-1032, King GXK-8180). However, other sessions are also innevitable to enjoy listening to, including this album (with the same members as on “Nigeria” except Louis Hayes replacing Art Blakey). Recently there is a comprehensive 2CD issue “Complete Grant Green With Sonny Clark” available which presents the good combination of Grant Green and Sonny Clark. Members consists of Grant Green (g), Sonny Clark (p), Sam Jones (b) and Louis Hayes (ds). Recorded on December 23, 1961.
