Thinning out part of my LP collection, if only to make room for those I keep buying. These albums have generally been mine from new, and have always been kept stored vertically and indoors: no damp garage storage here!
Now, you will all have spent time looking at listings of albums, trying to decipher what the condition actually is of the vinyl and the sleeve, and you may even have come a cropper buying an album where the seller has stretched the description to the limit, trying desperately to imply the item is nearly mint when it is only VG, or VG when it is only G. So, with this album which can command pretty high prices I am going out of my way to be as straight as possible with the description.
Yes, I bought this from new, but I was soon pulled in by the allure of CDs, fool that I was, and if this was played more than twice per side I don't recall so. It's possible that one or more sides never got played - until I play tested it yesterday, that is. All six sides of vinyl play through absolutely fine; I noted one click during side 1, and one further click during the exit grooves of a later side.
The triple gatefold sleeve? Hmmmmm. When good slabs of vinyl gave way in the seventies to wafer thin efforts, I hadn't thought that cardboard would suffer the same ignominy. The material they used for this sleeve is dreadful, it's more like thick paper. Being a gloss black, it shows all the creases and dinks and bumps, just from being stored alongside other Dead albums. It is really thin stuff, and I have taken lots of photos so you can see how difficult it is to keep it pristine. I saw a listing of this album on here some while ago and the seller had tried to say theirs was VG+, but photos showed the sleeve had the same issues as this copy. There is a small retailer's sticker on the inside of the triple gatefold; watchers from Worcestershire may well remember them. So there you go, if you bid and win you will not be let down.
