Description

Up for sale is a lot of 4 Vinyl Box sets from the Grateful Dead, featuring each show from the Get Shown the Light Box Set of May 1977 shows first released on CD in 2017. 3 of the 4 vinyl sets are Brand New and still sealed, the 4th, 5/8/77 was opened and played once. That show is also the only one that is a 2nd pressing. The other shows have only had a single pressing, while Cornell has sold out of a pressing of 7,700 and one of 10,000. All of the vinyl sets are 180g vinyl records, EXCEPT Cornell, which was pressed on 140g vinyl for the 2nd pressing.

The first vinyl set released was a dead.net release of the most famous Grateful Dead show ever, Cornell 5/8/77. That 1st pressing sold out within days, and a second pressing of 10,000 copies was also sold exclusively on dead.net, and also sold out quickly. The Cornell box is a second pressing copy, and is the only one of these 4 boxes I've opened. I listened to it once around the time I got it in 2018. As I said, the other 3 are still brand new and sealed. The first Cornell pressing and the Buffalo 5/9/77 show, released for Record Store Day for Black Friday 2020, were limited to 7,700 copies. New Haven 5/5/77, released for Record Store Day in April 2023 was limited to 8,000, while Boston 5/9/77 was limited to 11,000 copies. Buying them all here in one convenient lot saves you a lot of hunting for them one at a time. These shows have an outsized reputation among Deadheads, and for good reason. The band played a good show in New Haven on May 5, then had an off day where their producer for the Terrapin Station album, Keith Olsen, got the band to use their off day for some rehearsals that left them as tight a unit as anyone would ever accuse them of being. I think that led to tighter than normal performances for several shows, which also led to some furious playing. All of it is captured in pristine reel to reels recordings by Betty Cantor-Jackson, a brilliant sound engineer who had helped record Live/Dead, Europe '72, and was making personal recordings with these magnificent reels.

I am only getting rid of these because I am selling my Grateful Dead collection. They will ship quickly, safely and securely, with plenty of bubble wrap. Part of the shipping cost is for insurance in this crazy world of our US Postal Service. Make an offer on these wonderful, and out of print vinyls today!
