InnerSleeve EXCELLENTThe originalpolylinedinner sleeve is still in good condition buthas faded with age and has some yellowish staining to the top edge.Iwill also include the original plastic outer that I bought with it,although it is starting to split slightly at the top, it still fitstightly and has successfully kept the dust off for all these years

RecordEXCELLENTIt’spressed on heavyweight vinyl The record itself is clean and glossyand the disc retains its deep, black vinyl sheen.

LabelsEXCELLENTThe ClassicUK 1st Press originalblack Philips label withsilver print and Dunwich record icon,show minimal signs of use, have no writing and are clean with onlythe faintest of spindlemarking. From 1966 until 1970, the black label was used withoutdisclaimers on the bottom, showingthey are original.

Audio QualityEXCELLENTItplays really well apart from avery few lightcracklesand pops only noticeable in the quietest of sections and mainlybetween trackswhichdoesn’t detract from the overall sound, which is still amazing. Onlyone pop really intrudes and justobscuresthe first “Th” of the word “the” in one of the choruses of“The White Ship”although deep cleaning would probably remove them.Itlays flat on the turntable and plays well without the needle stickingor jumping.

(Pleaseremember even new, factory fresh vinyl is likely to have some clicks and pops, but the richness of sound will always be better thandigital. OK eventually the robots and aliens will make digital soundas good, but until then, it’s a compromise, you have to choose;deep rich tones and a beautiful sleeve (often with lyrics or othernotes) or clinical sterility with nothing to see and a narrowfrequency range.)

Until1970 I only ever played my albums on a Garrard Sp25 Mk11 with aSonotone 9TAHC cartridge and from 1970 onwards on a Pioneer PL12Dwith a Shure N75 ED-T2 cartridge and stylus, tracking at 1.5 gramswhich I continue to use today – although the stylus has beenreplaced regularly

Summary:thisICONIC,amazingexample of original 1967 Psychadelia combining short acid rock guitarand swirling keyboards with experimental use of instruments-harpsichord – and sounds. Especially noticeable in “The WhiteShip” which is at once eerie and otherworldly and still sendsshivers along my spine all these years on. It is a fitting tribute toLovecraft’s (the author not the group) original horror stories.Other tracks, like “Let’s Get Together” are full of theinnocence of the Summer of Love.Thisraremasterwork albumis a lovely piece of genuine memorabilia from a bygone time thatchanged the world,as well as the way that music is made,and would grace any collection. If you haven’t heard it on vinylthis could be for you. It certainly doesn’t sound 51years old!Thisalbum in it’s first pressing MONO version has become a realcollectors itembuteventhough it grades as EXCELLENTI’mstarting at a sensible priceso a genuine fan or collector can enjoy itwithout paying rip off prices. RecordCollector grading system used MINT:The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks ordeterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such asthe lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Recordsadvertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint. EXCELLENT:The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is verylittle lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might haveslight wear and / or creasing. VERYGOOD: Therecord has obviously been played many times, but displays no majordeterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks andthe occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover orextra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.
