Description
Up for auction is a very nice copy of the Hampton Hawes album "For Real!" released on Contemporary Records (M3589) in 1958. This is an original, deep groove, MONO pressing. One of the many things that makes this album special is the performance of Scott La Faro, his only recording, prior to his untimely death in a motor accident. This copy is in really nice shape. Front cover looks pretty much as new except for a partial crease in upper right corner and a tiny bump in lower right (brand new copies can have these traits too). Small chip in upper right corner. No ring wear. Back cover is clean, unmarked, bone-white, no age discoloration or ring wear. Seams are strong, no splits. Call it Near Mint Minus (NM-). The vinyl is very nice, too. Retains its original high gloss luster; no marks around spindle holes, no deep scratches or scuffs. Both sides seem to have a few very faint and superficial hairlines that can't be felt, mostly likely causes by taking disc in and out of paper inner sleeve. I have play tested this record and it sounds beautiful and clean, virtually no background noises at all. A really nice sounding record. It plays Near Mint-, but I'll grade the disc EX+ overall. This is a real gem of a recording session and should be a part of any serious jazz collection.
