HANK MOBLEY "Hank Mobley Sextet, Vol. 4" Blue Note 1560, "RVG," "P," DG, Mono Vinyl

This is the first edition, 1957, "RVG" stamped, Laminated Cover, "P" pressing of HANK MOBLEY's "Hank Mobley Sextet, Vol 4," aka HANK, on the "47 West 63rd" labels of Blue Note BLP 1560. Musicians include Donald Byrd, John Jenkins, Hank Mobley, Bobby Timmons, Wilbur Ware, Philly Joe Jones.

This VINYL plays with consistent low level surface noise with occasional ticks, but the instruments are dynamic, clean with clear transients, powerful and full toned. No distortion. Occasional ticks. No skips. No warps. Where Side 1 is quite clean overall, Side 2 has more ticks and pops, some repeating, closer to medium level surface noise in spots. Side 2, #1 a repeating bump can be heard, but is soon overwhelmed by the music. A few hairline marks--4 feelable, on Side 2. Both sides have very good gloss. See photos. As with all first pressing Blue Note discs, the powerfully recorded and performed music overcomes imperfections. The Deep Groove "47 West 63rd" labels are clean with spindle wear under direct light. See photos.

LAMINATED COVER is in excellent shape, some peeling, some discoloration.  The Laminate stops one inch from jacket opening. Corners worn. Spine shows crackling, no split. Top seam 3" split, lower seam some tape. Tape top left and lower seam. See photos. "BLUE NOTE RECORDS INC., 47 West 63rd St., New York 23" back jacket shows stains at borders, otherwise clean. See photos.

This LP was play-tested on a high-end system consisting of Music Hall MMF-7.3 turntable/Ortofon Bronze cartridge, Heed Audio Elixir integrated amplifier, and Quad S2 speakers (with very revealing ribbon tweeters). Record cleaned on VPI 16.5.
