Condensing all the best Happy Mondays tunes into one place, this 40th anniversary collection of all the bands Factory Records singles comes across like an assault rifle loaded with hits. The Mondays, formed in Salford and fronted by the inimitable Shaun Ryder, are up there alongside Joy Division and New Order as one of Tony Wilson's finest ever signings. They were signed after a battle of the bands in the Hacienda and went on to release four albums between 1985 and 1992 before dramatically disbanding in 1993 and then reforming several times since. Despite not having released much in the way of material post Factory, the band's influence has never waned because of the strength of the likes of 'Step On', 'Kinky Afro' and 'Loose Fit'. Happy Mondays were able to capture what it felt like to feel true ecstasy and bottle it. The Mondays, as a unique conduit it to dancefloor euphoria, are about as great as there's ever been.
