Further Information/Comments

The Record Collecting field is now going the way of the antiques trade.

Price & desirability are strongly related to condition, provenence, supply & demand.

Records in Mint condition or with a documented provence are of a premium, and as such represent the wisest purchases and good investments.

This is the review copy John Du Cann received from Deep Purple Records, and has a genuine "factory sample" sticker on the label. I purchased it at the auction of the estate of John Du Cann on 12/01/2012 at T.W.Gaze in Diss, Norfolk, after his death in 2011 (as well as his 1st issue copy of Led Zeppelin 1 which I am also selling on Ebay at present). I will supply the purchaser with a copy of the invoice/bill of sale from the Auction house as "Provenience" to it's authenticity.

Band Background

Hard Stuff were an English hard rock (possibly a heavy metal predecessor) group, which included John Du Cann (credited as John Cann on this LP) formerly of Atomic Rooster, The Attack, Andromeda and 5 Day Week Straw People and Paul Hammond, (formerly of Atomic Rooster). Also in the line-up were vocalist Harry Shaw (formerly of Curiosity Shoppe and latterly Export), and John Gustafson (formerly of Quatermass).

Du Cann and Hammond had left Atomic Rooster due to disagreements with Vincent Crane over the increasingly bluesy, soulful direction he wanted to take that band in. Consequently, compared with Atomic Rooster's more progressive leanings, Hard Stuff were based more heavily on aggressive guitar.

Originally, Du Cann, Hammond and Shaw had formed a band provisionally entitled Daemon, with the intention of eventually touring and recording under the name Atomic Rooster. Gustafson was invited to join them on that basis, but after finding out that Crane retained the rights to the Atomic Rooster name, the quartet decided to continue anyway, but under the name Bullet instead.

As Bullet, the band released one single, "Hobo", the first on Deep Purple's Purple Records label. Following that release, however, they were prompted to change their name yet again, this time to Hard Stuff, due to a legal threat from a US band also called Bullet.

Hard Stuff toured heavily across Europe, particularly in Germany and Italy, often as support to Deep Purple and Uriah Heep. Their career was curtailed by a car crash in which Du Cann and Hammond were badly injured. Although the release of a second album went ahead, the band were soon to fold.

"Bulletproof", Hard Stuff's first album featured Shaw, but he had left the band by the time of its release and was uncredited.

I am a collector who has been collecting records for nearly 30 years, and these records are either part of my collection that I no longer require, or have acquired over the years as part of a job lot I purchased.  My main motivation for selling records is to finance the purchase of further records for my collection.

I have been buying and selling on Ebay since July 2000, and have a 100% positive feedback rate. I pride myself on giving accurate gradings and doing everything I can to ensure that every sale goes smoothly.

I believe that collectable records are only worth what someone is willing to pay for them, so all my auctions have a realistic starting price in relation to their rarity and/or condition.

______________________________________________________________

My gradings are based on the system used by Record Collector magazine as described below

Mint: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.??

Excellent: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.??

Very Good: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

Postage and Packaging
All records are sent securely packaged in purpose made mailers with at least 2 cardboard stiffeners, clearly marked fragile.I  always remove the record  from the outer sleeve (to avoid seam split whilst in transit) and then insert the record and sleeve into a brand new polythene sleeve.
I only post items as per Ebay and Paypal terms & conditions, which require that items are sent by a method that is trackable. Due to this, please be advised that you check that the postages rates listed below are acceptable to you before bidding, but please be assured, P&P charges are only those incurred and represent no profit to me.  UK packages are sent 2nd class recorded, as there appears to be only a minor  difference in delivery times between 1st & 2nd class which the additional charge does not seem to warrant. If required, I will send 1st class (if requested) but there will be an additional charge to cover  the extra cost.
I  enter the tracking number for all packages on to Ebay either on the day of dispatch or the following day, so that you are fully aware of the progress of dispatched items.
I do combined shipping, so if you win more than one item it will work out a lot cheaper on the postage if I send them in the same mailer. If you purchase more than one record, please await receiving the invoice from me on the completion of the auction before paying, so that I can calculate the correct postage and you do not overpay.
Please note: If the value of the item, or combined items,  exceeds the standard compensation rate, there will be no extra charge to you,  as I will cover the additional cost  for  the increased insurance.
