Description
HARRIET COHEN Bach Well Tempered Clavier PRELUDES & FUGUES 1-9 Columbia SET 120 of 6x78rpm 12" discs - original 1928 pressing on 12" BLUE WAX. SUPERB COPY! - The famous first recording by the Femme Fatale of the British Pianists, the redoubtable Harriet COHEN. Nos 10 - 17 were recorded by Evelyn Howard Jones, for the remainder Harold Samuel was planned, but then the great depression and the Edwin Fischer WTC recording happened, and so the project was never completed. British pianist Harriet Cohen (1895-1967) was one of Tobias Matthay's most brilliant students. She was admired as a Bach interpreter, presenting in 1925 the very first all-Bach programme to be performed in Queen's Hall, London. In 1931 she was invited by the Bach Gesellschaft to perform at Bach's birthplace in Eisenach.
Visual Grading -
All 6 discs are super nice E+/N- with only insignificant scuffs.
Book - F (book is all there, but has some water damage and inside of spine is detached. still serviceable with a little effort)
I am experienced at selling and shipping 78rpm shellac discs. I have never had a 78 arrive broken. Shellac 78s will be shipped between two pieces of cardboard, then bubble wrapped and set in a 12" x 4" x 12" over-sized box. Bid with confidence. 78s do ship with a 10" sleeve, though not necessarily a company sleeve particular to the record label. 45s and 78s can ship together for savings on total shipping cost. Buyers should presume that most records will need a light cleaning before playing.

78RPM SHELLAC DISC GRADING:
N (78) NM (LP). As new and unplayed (there are virtually no 78s that can categorically be claimed to be unplayed).N- (78) NM- (LP). Nearly Mint, but has been played. No visible signs of wear or damage.
E+ (78) VG++ (LP). Plays like new, with very, very few signs of handling, such as tiny scuffs from being slipped in and out of jackets.
E (78) VG+ (LP). Still very shiny, near new looking, with no visible signs of wear, but a few inaudible scuffs and scratches.
E- (78) VG (LP). Still shiny but without the lustre of a new record, few light scratches. LP: Some wear, scratches and scuffs, but no skipped or repeat grooves.
V+ (78) VG- LP. V+ is an average condition 78 in which scuffs and general use has dulled the finish somewhat. Wear is moderate but playing is generally free from distortion. Surface noise not overly pronounced. LP: Below average with scuffs and scratches on fewer than half the tracks. No skips or repeat grooves.
V (78) G+ (LP). Moderate, even wear throughout, but still very playable. Surface noise and scratches audible but not intrusive.
V- (78) G (LP). Quite playable still, but distortion and heavy greying in loud passages. Music remains loud in most passages. Surface noise and scratches well below music level. LP: Lowest Grade. Audible scratches, etc. on more than half the tracks. Listening uncomfortable.
G+ (78). Grey throughout but still serviceable. Music begins to sound muffled. Heavy scratches.
G (78). Quite seriously worn and scratched, but music level is still higher than surface noise.
G- (78). Music still prominent, but wear and scratch damage extensive.
F (78). Most of music remains audible over surface noise, but listening now uncomfortable.
