A Message to Dan Kimterel
William S. Hart, speaker, I believe. He doesn’t say who it is but it sounds like the same voice as on the Victor 12” 78, not offered here. Also, he rode a pinto in the films, as referenced in the recorded text.

These appear to be dubs from an earlier recording, probably to fit it down to the two-sided 5-1/2” size. The matrix numbers are in Columbia's "Personal Record" series.
Side 1. Inscribed in the space between the outside edge and where the groove cut begins is, “P. w 1813-1 110 lines- 78 rpm 72 point recorder # 52 rerecorded. The 2-1/4” label area is blank.
From the message’s text it appears that Dan had sent Hart fan letters from Point Barrow Alaska to which Hart had responded. They had not been answered by Dan and Hart was very concerned. On this record says he is having 100,000 records made to be distributed all over the world, wherever English is spoken, in the hope someone will know where Dan is. Hart had sent two letters answering all Dan’s earlier questions but they were returned. Hart says the old pinto horse is alive and as frisky as ever. He also says he stopped making pictures because “I wouldn’t make any other kind than the ones that pleased you folks up there in Alaska.” He says he’s has a story for Dan on the other side.

The story is of Abeline, Kansas, the toughest town of the early west. The previous sheriff had been shot down. Wild Bill Hickock had been sent for. The dance hall gamblers concocted a plan to have Hickock killed, etc. A dog is involved. You can probably figure out the ending but, to be sure, you’ll need to have the winning bid and a 78 player.
I have two of the same kind of pressing of side 1, not offered here, with matrix 1813-2 and 1814-2, same size. 1814 is done with a different recorder and different size point. 1813-2 is the same as 1813-1 but there is no recorder number entered after this written phrase. Both have the same content.
I’ve never seen the record of which this was to be the master.
