Hatfield And The North : The Rotters' Club A-1U / B-1U 1st press 1975 Virgin

This first pressing plays with stunning quality on both sides with barely any intrusion.  S1 is flawless and S2 just has one very brief staticy sound and a handful of very light ticks on a fade out that is all.  The clarity and depth of the audio is exceptional and with the vinyl also being in pristine condition it is clear the previous owner looked after his collection so well.  I purchased a number from him and there are many more to come!

The fully laminated cover is in lovely condition with very little wear and as can seen it still has the original price sticker on the front.  The original inner sleeve is also in great shape.  A stunning 'package' all round.

Visual description

The vinyl is in beautiful condition and still has an immaculate glossy look with no marks or scratches.  Under a bright light it is difficult to find any hairlines!  Perhaps a handful of ultra faint ones at most but in all honesty you would be happy if you had just bought this vinyl brand new!  There is no groove or surface wear and the Virgin labels are stunning with no marking or spindle wear.

Play grading

'Share It' plays with exceptional quality throughout.  The clarity and warmth of the audio could not be any better and there is no background of any kind.  A Mint start to the album without a doubt.

The intro on 'Lounging There Trying' plays so clearly with only a couple of mega quiet statics and as it gather pace it still plays to the same high end standard.  The clarity of sound and the depth on the audio is first class and Mint is again deserved.

The two brief instrumentals '...John Wayne...' and 'Chaos At The Greasy Spoon' both play with stunning precision with no interference whatsoever.  Mint

The segue into 'The Yes No Interlude' is perfect and it continues to play with a sonic quality that is second to none.  Miller's work on the guitar here is stunning and the very quiet mid section has to be heard to be believed!  It is so quiet and yet I heard nothing... apart from the music!  The rest is just as strong and clear - 'as new' sums it up perfectly!  The sonic quality here is amazing, the audio is so deep.  What a version!  Mint

Sinclair's opening vocal section on 'Fitter Stoke Has A Bath' plays so clearly with only a subtle hint of minor static towards the end and unless you are listening very intently you will not notice as it is so quiet.  The next 'vocal' / instrumental section is without fault as is the next contribution from Miller.  The winning bidder will be struck by the clarity on the final section.  It is of course so quiet and yet the playback is unbelievably clean with only a couple of barely audible statics.  Absolutely stunning and this again deserves a Mint grade.

'Didn't Matter Anyway' ends the side with... imperious quality once more.  The first vocal is flawless and it continues in the same manner with not so much as a dust tick.  It has one of the longest fade outs known to man (!) and yet the clarity is incredible.  This is Mint and I cannot quite believe just how clean and clinical S1 is!

Every note of 'Underdub' plays with that by now familiar clean sound and with a depth and warmth underpinned by Sinclair's strong bass.  In saying that I've just noticed a handful of light ticks on the fade out so I will say Near Mint overall.

'Your Majesty Is Like A Cream Donut (Quiet)', the first part of 'Mumps' plays with great clarity apart from one static sound literally at the end on the final note.  Near Mint

The main 12 minute section 'Lumps' then plays with stunning clarity, depth and resonance through every instrumental piece and the vocal section is equally as clean.  There are no clicks or pops and I only heard a handful of minor statics in one brief section that clearly do not intrude on the listen.  Mint-

'Prenut' keeps up the standard with a superb sound throughout.  A couple of barely audible statics no more so I will grade as Mint- accordingly.

The final section '...Donut (Loud)' ends the album with 'as new' audio from start to finish i.e. no background at all.  It is definitely a Mint conclusion to the album.

The Cover & Inner Sleeve

The laminated cover is in superb condition with hardly any wear.  The top edge has only a couple of tiny 'crimps' on the back cover that is attached to it and the bottom edge and spine are in superb order.  The corners are very clean also and the opening edge is as close to perfect as could be with only a couple of insignificant rubs.  The front cover has only two minor edge creases next to the spine and a small amount of laminate lift towards the bottom.  The back cover is near perfect with only a couple of tiny rubs by the top edge.  This is a stunning example of this cover.

The original plain white die-cut inner has no side splits or tears and barely any creasing.  Just a little age related fading around the edges, not much at all.

Postage & Packaging

I will only send items items worldwide via tracked shipping.  This provides 'peace of mind' in case of loss or damage.  The shipping costs are shown below and combined shipping is always offered.  Any over-payment will always be refunded.

The Royal Mail only insure up to a value of £250 so if an item sells for more it may be wise to use a courier service (e.g. Parcelforce or DPD).  An extra insurance premium will be required but I will not know the exact amount until the final sale price is known.  Because of this I will sometimes have to estimate the cost and this will be shown in the listing.  Please wait for the invoice before making payment and if you have any questions please feel free to ask.  Many thanks.

All vinyls are packaged in strong over-sized custom made mailers with plenty of extra cardboard protection.  They are placed inside separate poly-lined inners outside the cover so as to avoid seam splits in transit and then placed inside a PVC sleeve to provide even more protection.  I pride myself on my high quality packaging as my feed confirms and if any customer has any specific requirements I am more than happy to help.

The mailers I use cost £1.00 each and I will use anything between 3-5 cardboard stiffeners which cost approx £0.18 each.  There is also the cost of the poly-lined inner and PVC sleeve to consider, it all adds up!  Not forgetting that eBay take 10% of the shipping fee also!!
