Recorded in 1975, this release finds Hawkwind at a creative peak, drawing together space rock sprawl, hard-edged riffing and widescreen psychedelia. Cut with the classic line-up of Dave Brock, Nik Turner and Lemmy, the material balances propulsion and atmosphere in equal measure. 'Assault & Battery/The Golden Void' opens in dramatic fashion, shifting from churning drive into cosmic drift, before 'The Wizard Blew His Horn' and 'Opa-Loka' push further into ritualistic haze. On the flip, 'Standing At The Edge' tightens the groove, while 'Spiral Galaxy 28948' and 'Kings Of Speed' stretch out with hypnotic intent. This Atomhenge half-speed master, cut from the original tapes, gives the music added weight and clarity, reaffirming its status as a mid-70s high point.
