HEAD EAST:
Flat As A Pancake
(pyramid US 1974)
Megarare privately-released debut LP by
well-known legendary US heavy/rock band…
It is their first self-made debut(prior they were
signed by “A&M” label…these guys just played
their music,and let it do the talking for them...
while not "heavy enough" to be considered
"hard rock", but not soft enough to be considered
"folk rock" ,the band quite confortably fits into
the "classic rock" category…they entered at
Golden Voice studios in Pekin,Illinois that
Summer and recorded the tracks to this 1st LP ‘’Flat As A Pancake’’ , which they released on
their own label ”Pyramid’’ …
Some months later, A&M Records took note of
the bands popularity, and the airplay and record
sales of the Pyramid release and signed the
Head East to A&M label…
”Flat As A Pancake” was re-released on A&M
in 1975 with a totally different sleeve and
was certified Gold (representing 500,000 in
record sales) in 1978…
The single releases of “Never Been Any Reason”
and also “Love Me Tonight” both charted on the
Billboard's Hot 100 singles chart…
”Never Been Any Reason” has since become a
staple of classic rock radio and is one of the most
frequently played classic rock anthems in many
parts of the country…
This great debut mixes southern-style rock with
high-tech synthesizers, and adds a uniquely
positive lyrical message…the band' s sound is
typical mid-70s hard rock…of the kind that was
being performed by their contemporaries like
Bad Company and Bachman Turner Overdrive…
Overall,a real good period piece but the only
problem with this album is that it's too perfect
for underground’s diehards…

M = mint , new or unplayed condition…cover is nice and new looking with no ring wear.
M- = near perfect copy, played only a few times.
EX = only slight signs of wear; very clean, only light surface marks which will not distract
significantly from the sound…sleeve also has only slight wear, and is still in nice
collectible.
VG++ = played often with moderate surface wear and some moderate noise, still plays well…
sleeve may have medium overall wear or some ring wear.
VG+ = overall wear, but no skips of serious defects, more noisy sound during quiet passages…
sleeve is well worn, usually with considerable ring wear.
VG = plays a lot, heavy wear on record and cover…guarantee does not apply to vg- or worse
condition records.
