This 1997 work from ex-Pale Fountains troubadour Mick Head and friends is already such a legendary album in the city of Liverpool that it seems poised to enter school curriculums - the gentle, economically artful songcraft, ornate chamber pop arrangements and reflective, psychedelically coloured atmosphere contribute to an understated yet powerful psychic pull that has made The Magical World Of The Strands one for the ages. Indebted to 'Forever Changes' and 'Five Leaves Left' it may be, yet there's nothing quite like the mesmeric melancholia of these lovelorn and careworn ditties, which retain a timeless ability to transform the everyday.
