The album here, Head Over Heels, was recorded in 1985 and, with Solid Gold Records having filed for bankruptcy, they landed a contract for distribution with Columbia/MCA (MCA-5630). Unfortunately in the eyes of some of their most devoted fans, they performed a sharp left turn and deviated away from their reputation as "Canada's loudest band." It seems Bryant and MacLeod, deciding to depart Chilliwack and concentrate on this group (Aubin was gone by this time, replaced by Mark Craney), introduced a slicker more "commercial" sound by incorporating additional instruments such as the saxophone and even the tuba, along with large backing vocal groups. Not long after its release, Chrissy Steele came in to take over from Darby Mills.
The band members for this recording were: lead vocalist Darby Mills; guitarist/keyboardist and occasional drummer Brian "Too Loud" MacLeod; bassist Ab Bryant; drummer Mark Craney; and keyboardist Darcy MacDonald. Other key contribution musicians are: Matt Frenette, drummer on Don't Matter What You Say; and saxophonist John Ferierra on Chain Gang. The album may have annoyed some of their fan-base and certain critics, but to these ears anyway, it was a pleasant change for the better.
