Description
Bob Hope is awarded the Great American Award by the Wilshire Chamber of Commerce. Various speakers including Bob Hope, Cecil B. DeMille and Danny Thomas. Bob Hope accepts and does about 10 minutes at the top of Side 3. He is followed by about 20 minutes of comedy by Danny Thomas. This may be a one-of-a-kind item. There's a few skips and one spot where the tonearm got stuck so I forwarded it manually however I made no attempt to see if I could get it to track better with more weight or cleaning better. Sold as is. There's a skip at the very top of side 1 before the first speaker begins. The audio samples include the first few minutes of Side 1, Cecil B. DeMille's introduction of Bob Hope from the end of Side 2 and two 5- minute segments from side 3, one of Bob Hope and one of Danny Thomas. I did a Google search with the date and Google indicates there was a roast of Cecil B. DeMille on November 30, 1953. After DeMille introduces Bob and Bob gets rolling he has some jokes about DeMille but this is not a DeMille roast event. It's an award event with the award going to Bob Hope. DeMille introduced the guest of honor Bob Hope. Inasmuch as Google got the roast part wrong it may also have gotten the date wrong. Or the date on the acetate labels could be wrong.???
