US soft rock band's Heart groundbreaking debut is now reissued for its 50th anniversary, remaining a milestone in rock history. Released in 1976, it introduced the Wilson sisters as the fierce new voices in a male-dominated genre, showing their ability to merge Zeppelin type power with intricate folk melodies. The opener 'Magic Man' led the way with its hypnotic rhythm and swirling guitar and synth solos, while 'Crazy On You' still stands tall as one of their greatest achievements. The title track appears in three different forms, creating a thematic thread that softens the album's harder edges with dreamy, melodic interludes. Other highlights include the blues-driven 'White Lightning and Wine', the gentle folk ballads 'How Deep It Goes' and 'I'll Be Your Song' and the ambitious 'Sing Child', which reveals their progressive rock leanings. Throughout, the interplay between Nancy's guitar work and Ann's commanding vocals is magnetic. The album catapulted Heart into stardom, but also laid the foundation for women to lead in rock with unfiltered intensity.
