HEAVY MENTAL

4-TRACK 7" EP 33 1/3rpm)

1983 Prestige International
QD830417-01

This is certainly an obscure record with very little to go on in terms of origin. The EP contains four songs - "Pepsi Generation," "CIA Theme" (side 1); "Mind Heroes," "Business Man Boogie" (side 2). Heavy Mental seems to have been a post-punk, female-fronted band from God knows where. As for the label, Prestige International, this is NOT the Prestige International (subsidiary of Prestige Records) that released records in the 1950s and 1960s. I think this Prestige International is a private label. There is almost no information on this band or record anywhere. (Surely some people somewhere must remember this band...) The music has that jittery kind of New Wave high energy and the songs are quite sarcastic. In "Mind Heroes" the singer name-checks lots of famous musicians and celebrities. The playing is rawkus and a step above amateur, but not too high a step. This might be worth a lot more if we knew some background on it, but as is, it's still a rare collectible record. Excellent condition, comes in a plain paper sleeve.
