[the cover looks really fantastic. there is a small pricing stick on the back cover in the bottom right corner. the spine printing is neat and well-centered. The vinyl has excellent shine and sparkle with a couple of light and minor paper scuffs and a small area of slight discoloration in the vinyl on Side Two that does not affect the play of the record in ANY way!] This record PLAYS FANTASTIC! RECORD HISTORY: Her first two albums were released in 1955, and this was the second one. MS. MERRILL is a legendary Jazz singer whose most swinging, most endearing and most Jazz oriented work can be found on these two EmArcy recordings! Orchestra ARRANGED and CONDUCTED by RICHARD HAYMEN! In addition to The HAYMEN ORCHESTRA, the combo backing her on this date comprises HANK JONES, BARRY GALBRAITH, MILT HINTON and SOL GUBIN! This record is perfect for BOP JAZZ COLLECTORS!
ARTIST BIOGRAPHY: HELEN MERRILL's long history in jazz began with her first album on the Mercury Emarcy label arranged and produced by Quincy Jones in 1955. She started her career at the 845 club in the Bronx while still in high school. Among these appearing with Helen at the time were Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Bud Powell, Oscar Pettiford, et al. During her formative years she worked with Earl Hines, Charles Mingus, Thad Jones, Clifford Brown, Gil Evans, Charlie Byrd, Marian McPartland, Al Haig, Jim Hall, Elvin Jones, Ron Carter, Bill Evans, Stan Getz, etc. She has made a large number of jazz albums and her recording career began in the now famous Rudy Van Gelder studio in New Jersey. Mercury quickly signed MS. MERRILL to a contract. She recorded "Helen Merrill with Strings" for Mercury in 1955. MS. MERRILL has recorded more then 40 albums.

The beginnings of ring wear will be evident on the cover and some surface scuffs will appear on the vinyl, BUT record will play with no background noise. VG++: use is evident but not bad. Cover has ring wear and vinyl has noticeable surface wear. Should play with NO surface noise during the music. VG+: average used record, looks OK, plays OK. No surface noise is noticeable during the music. Some surface noise is possible during quiet passages. VG: Cover shows more than normal wear and vinyl shows more than normal wear.
