This is a rare collectible 1959 album featuring Herb Ellis, guitar, and Jimmy Giuffre, tenor sax, with a strong supporting cast of Bud Shank and Art Pepper, alto saxes; Richie Kamuca, tenor sax; Jim Hall, guitar; Lou Levy, piano; Joe Mondragon, bass; and Stan Levey, drums.
We listen to all of the albums to avoid any surprises. The monophonic sound plays well, but I play-graded it VG+ for a few tics and some mild surface noise, occasionally noticeable, but not distracting. The vinyl appearance is a little better, at VG++.
The outer sleeve is also VG+. The front graphic is strong, but a 3/4 inch split has started in the upper right corner and there is a ding in the lower right corner. There is minor edge wear and the back cover shows a little wear. We are including a poly sleeve to protect the cover.
This monophonic album was issued as Herb Ellis Meets Jimmy Giuffre, on Verve MG V-8311 in 1959. This is a DEEP GROOVE pressing. The label is black with silver printing, with the TRUMPETER LOGO on the left side. The engineer was Bones Howe.
