Description
THIS IS A GENUINE WHO / HIGH NUMBERS RARITY. As this is a glass / framed print, it can be picked up either in the WEST END of central LONDON or EALING. Postage is possible, see below. During the 1980s I had the pleasure to meet and work with the late and great photographer DEZZO HOFFMAN. We were working on publicising his first books of BEATLES PHOTOGRAPHS that were being published at the time. This shot was given to me as a birthday present and was framed by Dezzo's favourite framing specialist ARTEFACT of 37 WINDMILL STREET, LONDON (CHINA TOWN to you and me!), very near his own studio. Dezzo took this RARE PHOTOGRAPH of THE HIGH NUMBERS at SHEPHERDs BUSH MARKET in 1964, to promote the "I'M THE FACE" single, but it was not used at the time. I'm sure WHO fans will know if it has been published since! To me the amazing thing is how very young KIETH MOON looks. He had just joined THE WHO only to find he was suddenly making a single under another name, considered more 'MOD' sounding - THE HIGH NUMBERS. Anyway, in the mid 1980's, this rare photograph was printed, framed, signed and dedicated to VALERIE BOYD (the wife of NICK LOWE), who had worked with Dezzo editing his masses of 'pop' negatives and prints from the early 1960's. The dedication reads "To Valerie with LOVE fron Dezzo". A few years later it was given to me, for which I was incredibly grateful - but now it is time for it to find a new home. The B&W matt print measures 14" x 12" and is dry mounted on white card, which gives the appearence of as white border. This is then mounted on dark grey card and placed in a silver frame. This picture is sold without copyright, which of course remains with Dezzo's estate. Whatever the case, this photograph was taken, selected and given as a gift by Dezzo Hoffman, so in my books it is very special! If it never been published, then even more so. A GENUINE PIECE OF POP HISTORY. I have stated in the sale details "collect only", however of course it is possible to ship the picture, but I will have to get a quote for the winner as the packing will be very substantial to protect the glass.
