I recently had the good fortune to buy a big collection of those rather limited early 80's Garage Punk & Psychedelic compilations LPs from a trusted collector who bought these all at the time....(ummm...from a shop I owned back then, in fact....ah, the cycle of time works in wonderful ways sometimes).
Anyway, this is one of them.

Take a trip to Hipsville, man! It's what's happening! Here you'll find walls of fuzz death surrounding
reverb hell. The buildings are all round (not square) and populated by demented fourteen year-olds
who order Farfisa organs through the mail, and then learn how to play them.
The Sparkles rave wild once again, this time with the title cut, "Hipsville 29 B.C. (I Need Help)."
This, from the same guys that killed you with "No Friend Of Mine," is the last of their six singles. It's
pure Texas insanity - yeah, cactus and all!
How can you possibly live up to a name like The Guys Who Came Up From Downstairs?! Just
imagine what they smelled like. Their song, "Growth," is pretty good, but the name is pure dementia.
Ending the side are the Motions with "Land Beyond The Moon," a great instrumental with last minute
vocals. (This song is just too much! Read about these cool teens in Kicks #3 - Mike Stax).
Flip over and dig both sides of the Fantastic Dee-Jays' best single. "Get Away Girl" and "Fight Fire"
are both great, recorded just prior to the accident in which all band members received the massive
brain hemorrhage which led to their becoming the Swamp Rats! Check out the Eva Fantastic Dee-Jays
album for more pre-rat-infested ravings.
A couple more outstanding mentionables: "You Got Me" by the Prodigal - what great noise! A real
stomper beat, for those mornings when your body refuses to function. Better than coffee, and a
personal fave. Then there's the legendary "Stacey" by the Hangmen Of Fairfield County. This chick's
a real buzz, a rare bird who's better than coke with aspirin! "I've heard of the highs of dexedrine/But s
he's got a kick like a twenty mule team - Stacey!" Wow, I'd like to meet her!
Okay, last but not least is "Happiness Is Havin'" by Beaver and the Trappers. That's right, you
guessed it, it's Jerry Mathers! The "little goon" has grown up, and now digs fast cars, havin' a girl of
his own, and "blowing his mind." It's actually not as stupid as you might expect.
This album definitely rates high on the list of happening comps. It's well packaged (great cover shot
of the Sparkles!), good sound quality, with some great stuff - no lame tracks, and obviously put
together by people who know what's cool - not just some square collectors. Once again, your kicks
are not complete without this collection of deranged teen hysteria, so grab a copy and buzz!

CONDITION:
COVER: (M-)...basically mint/untouched, a very light sticker satin is the only blemish...
VINYL: (M-)...almost as shiny and pristine as the day it left the pressing plant, but with just a couple of very mild paper scuffs (like, virtually nothing, right?)...looks like it's never been within a sniff of a turntable...
LABELS: (Side One: MINT / Side Two: MINT)...
