Description
Up for auction is an original first pressing of Hljomar’s debut LP, released in 1967 in Iceland –only!- on SG, cat no SG 013. Hljomar are perhaps best known –at least outside their native land- as Thor’s Hammer, an Icelandic combo who visited London in 1966 & recorded a series of incendiary freakbeat & beat ballad singles for export back to their homeland. Their recordings in their native tongue are lesser-known, but barely less accomplished, as demonstrated by this waxing. Personal favourite here is the wonderful Midsumarnott, an atmospheric & ultra-melodic organ-and-flute led ballad. It’s certainly an LP with a mood unlike any other.
Condition: hmm... the vinyl is somewhat marked & scratched on both sides, but against all expectations plays through without distortion (but with pops) throughout. Cover has a name written on the rear (Pat Irish of Exeter, come on down! You have great taste!), has tape stains along one seam (though the tape has been removed), and has some general wear & tear, but is complete. I probably can’t grade higher than “G” all round, but at least you’ll know what to expect...
My grades: I use a 10-point scale: M-; EX; VG+; VG; VG-; G+; G; G-; F (fair); P (poor). I never use mint as a grade for used records. My feedback from buyers indicates I normally undergrade in listings. Even so, if you have any problems, I'll give you your money back (less shipping costs), no questions asked. Buy with confidence!
