Description

HMV Portable Gramophone
This HMV Portable Wind-Up Gramophone is in full working order, has a good spring on it and will spin for considerably longer than the duration of a 10" or 12" 78, automatic brake stops the platter spinning when the soundbox is lifted away at the end and everything seems to work as it should. I am sure though that it would certainly benefit from a good service to get it into smooth tip top running condition.
Sound wise it also sounds very good indeed.
The cosmetic appearance of it is in decent condition, signs of age and use as you would normally expect but no serious cosmetic defects, covering is slightly coming away on the inside of the lid as you can see.
I've had this Gramophone for over a year now and one thing I noticed initially when I aquired it were a number of small holes, about a dozen or so (12) in the case, upon first seeing them I thought that perhaps it had some woodworm, but I think that the holes are actually where somebody, possibly a child has pushed a gramophone needle into the casing, I see absolutely no evidence of any active woodworm and think that the holes have indeed been made with a steel gramophone needle. The holes are very minor indeed and hardly affect the appearance, you can just slightly see a few of them in one of the close up photos.
UK P&P is £7.00
