Description
NCVinyl is a new Ebay business, founded by three long time record collectors. As collectors and audiophiles ourselves we appreciate the importance of accurate descriptions and reliable, timely service. Our mission is simple - to make you happy with your purchase.
Since NCVinyl is just getting started, our feedback is modest. However, all three of us have been trading on Ebay for many years, earning near perfect feedback. You will receive your record in the condition you expect (or better), or your money back.
Artist: Small Faces
Title: First Step / 1st U.S. Tour Press Package / Boxed Promotional Set
Label: Warner Bros.
Catalog #: 1851
Format: Stereo
Year: 1970
ULTRA SCARCE BOX SET individually handed out to the press during the Small Faces' 1st U.S. Tour. As far as we can tell, this set is COMPLETE, which a potpourri of unbelievably rare goodies. Is it the one and only intact set? We don't know...but we can say with certainty that in over 53 years of combined collecting, we've only seen this set twice...and never seen it in this condition, or with all the pieces contained herein! Check it out...
The box measures 12 3/4" x 12 3/4" x 3/4" thick, and has a bright, shiny silver cover. In the center of which is pasted a 5" square flip-book style decorative piece. Flip the strips back and forth to reveal the band or the Union Jack! The box shows some wear to the corners, and some slight foxing on the back, but overall looks terrific. And how rare can an un-damaged flip piece be? This one not only has all the strips, it appears practically unflipped!
The lp is First Steps, in NM condition. The vinyl is shiny, clean and unscratched. The spindle hole looks never skewered. We'd bet this vinyl has never been on a turntable. The cover is crisp, clean and unmarked, with the bottom corners slightly dinged. The gatefold hinge so fresh it creaked the first (and only) time we opened it. Nice.
A two-page, stapled letter from Hal Halverstadt, Merchandising Director of Warner Bros. It reads in part, "...beneath and all around this cheery epistle you will find, hopefully to your intense pleasure, a number of little groovies designed to get you interested in our recently-acquired Small Faces...new lead-singer Rod (The Mod) Stewart and new lead guitarist Ron (Good-Looking) Wood [who have] stepped into the ranks of the Faces from the ruins of the dubious but immensely popular Jeff Beck Group." Who knew? The Jeff Beck Group...dubious? It's all here folks, on two bright sheets of Warner logo stationery marred only slightly by a touch of foxing on the back page. How many of these were kept and not immediately tossed?!
Two copies of a Small Faces promo profile that bears a unique Small Faces logo on top. Sample: "Twenty five year old Rod Stewart hasa justifiable reputation as one of the finest contemporary blues singers in the world..." "Small Faces might be remembered for a sizable American hit, Itchycoo Park, or for their early albums on Immediate Records..." Usual industry blather, but compelling in its in-the-moment enthusiasm. Pages are minty fresh...and rare!
A reprint of a Rolling Stone article about Rod Stewart, printed on blue paper. As new...and rare!
An 8' x 10" glossy black and white photo of the band...and someone's dog! A super cool shot with Rod and Ronnie holding hands! Perfect condition, never taped or pinned to a wall, like everything else in this collection, stored safely - until now - for over 40 years in the promo box!
As rare as the above, standard industry promo fare is, here comes the most unique and grooviest stuff of all...starting with a 25" x 12" orange and yellow photo of "The Small Faces' London"! Highlights include, "The world-famous Marquee Club. Here the lads launched themselves, bowdlerizing The Who." and the location where, "Kenny Jones here arrested 6th August 1968 for allowing his pet Afghan to urinate against the leg of police sergeant Jeff Bull..." and "Maison d'Poov Coiffures. Here Rod the Mod has his hair done." In perfect condition, unmarred by tape, pin or the drooling of adolescent girls. Wow!
Four 4" x 6" postcards.Union Jack. Double decker bus. Bull dog. Darts. Very British...nearly new condition, with no writing on back, and sharp corners. How many of these do you think have survived, and weren't sent to equally adoring fans of the band? All four...perfect condition....pull me another ale!
Four 12" x 12" pages of Small Faces paper dolls! Revel in the five band heads and the slew of psychedelic threads pulled from the closet for them to wear. Mod jackets, super-wide ties, and of course, Rod's signature scarves! In flawless condition, like nearly everything else in this incredible set! We've seen two of these sheets before, but never, ever all four....much less, perhaps RAREST OF ALL in this set, the original silver children's scissors provided for cutting the paper dolls!! As new, and thank goodness, NEVER USED!!
Finally...a must-have for every true band fan...an original, official Small Faces button. Silver (to match the promo box cover) with small, sharp Small Faces in type.
I don't know about you, but I'm overwhelmed...staggered...by this incredible collection of super rare goodies, never before seen (at least by us) all in one place, in nearly immaculate condition! The silver box with cool flip-book front! The cover letter and band profiles from Warner Bros.! The Rolling Stone article! The glossy band photo! The map of Faces London hotspots! Not one, but all four postcards! Four pages of band paper dolls! The scissors! The button! And the album, the gleaming vinyl, everything RARE and nearly as fresh as it was over forty years ago!
Whether you're a fan of the Small Faces, Rod Stewart, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, The Who, The Kinks or any of the British invasion bands don't miss this opportunity to own this ultra-collectible, perhaps one of a kind item! We're starting bidding low so everyone has a shot. Bid now!
