Description
Up for auction is a beautiful original copy of the album "Song For My Father" by The Horace Silver Quintet released on Blue Note Records (BN 41850 in 1964. This is an original MONO pressing, RVG and "ears" stamped in the dead wax. Includes original Blue Note inner sleeve. New York USA labels, deep groove on Side One. Around the time of this release in 1962, it wasn't uncommon for Blue Note to use both deep groove and non-deep groove plates for pressing, as they were transitioning from one to the other. The cover is in fantastic shape, no obvious flaws or blemishes. There is no ring wear, uncommon for this record, which was very prone to it because of the semi-matte/laminate finish. Seams are strong, intact, no splits, no cracking, no flaking. Corners are sharp, with only a small hint of rubbing on a couple of them. Back cover is also clean, bone white, no ring wear, no writing. Has a tiny bit a faint spotting along top seam, and a couple light spots in lower left corner--hardly worth noticing. Overall, I'd grade the cover Near Mint Minus (NM-). The heavy vinyl disc is also in very nice condition. No obvious scratches or scuffs. Retains its original high gloss sheen. Clean, unmarked labels. Not very many signs of previous handling or play. Very well cared for record. Perhaps some very faint signs of having been taken out of the paper inner sleeve a few times. Otherwise, I'd grade this vinyl Near Mint Minus (NM-). This is an ever-increasingly difficult original Blue Note pressing to find in this condition. A must-have in every serious collector's archive.
