En el garaje de casa improvisaban ensayos junto a su primo Santiago, y no pasó demasiado tiempo antes de que llevaran sus locuras a la calle o al metro. Manu y Santiago fueron los primeros en tomarse algo más en serio la música, y formaron HOT PANTS, acompañados por dos amigos: Jean-Marc (bajista) y Pascal (guitarra). Aquesta 1a. gravació és "especial", en el sentit que és l'única de tota la carrera dels Chao i companyia on no hi ha presència de rumba flamenca, ni cap cançó cantada en espanyol: pel que sembla, el descobriment de les seues "arrels ibèriques" és posterior a l'edició d'aquest 7" # segons la pàgina web de LA AVENIDA DE LA PAZ, dedicada a glossar la figura de Manu Chao: "Un primer single, SO MANY NITES, que fue vitoreado por la prensa de Francia, permitió a Santi y Manu reencontrase con sus raices hispanas: fue en un memorable viaje a Granada cuando la banda recuperó su amor por lo español, y a partir de ahí adoptaron para su repertorio versiones de héroes locales como Los Chunguitos o Camarón". /// Original pressing of the brilliant debut 7" by the vigorous HOT PANTS, the French alternative-rock band Manu Chao was in before he joined firstly Los Carayos and then the acclaimed Mano Negra # according to the MANUCHAO.NET website: "They played a deafening garage rock with an R&B twist, and they swore by Chuck Berry, The Coasters and The Clash.
