HERE'S a very influential record, by a very influential blues singer: LEROY CARR and partner Scrapper Blackwell, in their first Vocalion release, "HOW LONG, HOW LONG BLUES" and "MY OWN LONESOME BLUES."
This singer and this record had LEGS. Leroy Carr was the first of an entirely new breed of blues man - more intimate, more urban, a major game-changer, who affected everyone from Robert Johnson to Ray Charles. "How Long, How Long Blues" was an enormous hit, covered by all the "race" labels in 1928, both vocally and instrumentally, and it remained popular right through the Big Band era.
This original 1928 "Race" Vocalion 1191 is in semi-beat V condition: distortion in the high peaks, still a satisfying player. Belongs in every blues collection!
