Description
Per Wikipedia, The Howlin' Wolf Album is the first studio album by Howlin' Wolf, released in 1969. It features members of Rotary Connection as his backing band. The album mixed blues with psychedelic rock arrangements of several of Wolf's classic songs. Howlin' Wolf strongly disliked the album, which is noted on the album's cover art. Marshall Chess, owner and producer at Cadet Concept Records, felt that he could revive the career of bluesmen Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf by recording two albums of experimental, psychedelic blues with members of Rotary Connection as the backing band for the singers. Chess hoped the new albums would sell well among fans of psychedelic rock bands influenced by Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf. Though not an immediate hit, the album peaked at number 69 on Billboard magazine's "Black Albums" chart. The album incorporates use of wah-wah pedal and fuzzbox. Marshall Chess augmented the rhythm of Howlin Wolf's live band with the use of electronic organ and saxophone. The album's single, "Evil", peaked at number 43 on the R&B Singles chart. The album up for sale is a 1969 release on the Cadet Concepts label, a subsidiary of Chess Records. It consists of 10 tracks with a run time of 40+ minutes. The cover is in VG/VG+ condition. The only major defect is a small 1/2" split seam on the upper left corner of the title seam. There are no other split seams and only mild wear along the edges and corners. The covers are without bent corners, tears or markings and there remains a high degree of gloss to the covers of this 55 year old recording. The paper inner sleeve is original and intact, but the sleeve is generic in nature without any photos or graphics, typical of the Chess recordings of the time. The recording has been cleaned, tested and recorded using Audacity. The recording is in VG+ condition with no skipping of the tracks and very little to no background noise. The recording is clear and crisp and the record surfaces show only mild, superficial signs of wear. There are no detectable signs of scratches or scuffs and all labels are clean and intact.
