Description

Harry Belafonte is an American singer, songwriter, actor, and social activist. One of the most successful African-American pop stars in history, he was dubbed the "King of Calypso" for popularizing the Caribbean musical style with an international audience in the 1950s. His breakthrough album Calypso (1956) is the first million-selling LP by a single artist.[1] Belafonte is perhaps best known for singing "The Banana Boat Song", with its signature lyric "Day-O". He has recorded in many genres, including blues, folk, gospel, show tunes, and American standards. He has also starred in several films, most notably in Otto Preminger's hit musical Carmen Jones (1954), Island in the Sun (1957), and Robert Wise's Odds Against Tomorrow (1959).
Belafonte has won three Grammy Awards, including a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, an Emmy Award,[3] and a Tony Award. In 1989, he received the Kennedy Center Honors. He was awarded the National Medal of Arts in 1994. In 2014, he received the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award at the Academy's 6th Annual Governors Awards.[4] In March 2014, he was awarded an honorary doctorate from Berklee College of Music in Boston. _______________________________________________________________________________________________
This particular record is unique because it was a special release by the Armed Forces Exchange only to military personnel stationed in Europe in the 1960s. The price tag in the lower right-hand corner of the back cover confirms this. It belonged to my grandfather, a Colonel in the US Air Forces in Europe.  _______________________________________________________________________________________________
The record is in EXCELLENT + condition; No scratches, scuffs, scrapes, blemishes, record player guide marks on the center labels are very light. This record is in LIVING STEREO, has been played, and is flawless.  The original inner sleeve is in VERY GOOD condition. I gave it this rating because there is a 2-inch separation on one of the sides. Other than that, no problems whatsoever.  The cover is in EXCELLENT + as well; No writing, marks, rips, tears, scuffs, scrapes, bends, worn corners, or separation. Very light shelf wear.  Please look at the pictures and compare it to others. I realize some sellers don't offer as many pictures as I do. I want you to make an educated buying decision.
A sophisticated collector isn't always after the music - you can find that on the web. The original covers and art work in above average condition is collectible.
