Description
Treat yourself to this rarity for Christmas. This clean SIGNED copy of the Hawklords' 1974 classic and very collectible LP Hall Of The Mountain Grill is in overall VG+ condition. It has been owned exclusively by me since I bought it off a friend on 14th August 1976. I can be sure of this date because he etched his initials and date (see pic 9) into the dead wax area on both sides. Thanks, Pol. This does not interfere with playback.
This is the original American pressing United Artists UA-LA328-G with tan coloured centre labels. The corner of the cover/inner sleeve has been clipped but my friend attempted to patch it up (see pic 3). >sigh< To be fair he didn't make that bad a job of it. I'd still have preferred to sell it unmolested, but here we are.
The disc is in VG+ condition. There is some misting and background rumble, but nothing that gets in the way.
The outer sleeve is that odd design you see in US imports of the era whereby it's made from hard almost pulpboard-like material with paper labels laminated onto it, but notwithstanding the corner patching it's still stiff, clean and bright so I rate it as being in overall VG+ condition. Inevitably for a 47 year-old LP the corners are a little foxed.
The glossy printed inner cover is intact but has handling wear and pressure rings (pics 4 and 5).
Also included is a plain paper dust cover autographed by most of the band (pic 6). It isn't original to the release but will be of great interest to collectors. Autographs are of Dave Brock, Nik Turner, Bob Calvert, Simon King, Paul Rudolph, Alan Powell, and one illegible signature that MAY be Simon House(?). I had the band sign this myself at the stage door after a gig which I'm pretty sure was at Coventry Theatre in December 1975. An NME review at the time infers that Nik Turner had left by then and yet his signature is here. I also saw them at De Montfort Hall that year but I don't think this sleeve dates from then; my certain memory was that it was from Coventry Theatre because they had the 'Atomhenge' set and opened with Reefer Madness. I'm genuinely interested to hear from anybody who has information re this because it's been bugging me for ages.
