Description

Headband ‘Happen Out’ LP ~ NZ blues rock 1971 (Harvest)

Headband (NZ) – Happen Out LP (orig. Australia STEREO Harvest SHVL-7001—1972, gatefold cover)

Original Australian-pressed record in a New Zealand-manufactured gatefold cover.  Australian covers simply DO NOT EXIST.  EMI (Australia) imported the covers from HMV (New Zealand).

Recorded: 1971 ~ Australian release date: early 1972 (NZ issue: late 1971).

VERY RARE debut album by this group from AUCKLAND—NEW ZEALAND, and issued on the highly collectable HARVEST label.  This is a great energetic blues-rock LP that includes cover versions of THE BAND ‘Time To Kill’, BLOOD, SWEAT & TEARS ‘Lisa, Listen To Me’ and JOHN MAYALL ‘The Laws Must Change’.  The MAYALL cover takes up most of side two.  All five members get the opportunity to play individual solos throughout the song.  A special mention should be made of the amazing solos of Ron Craig and Billy Kristian—frenetic wah-wah guitar and fuzz bass absolutely explode out of the speakers.

Also included are the group’s hit singles ‘The Ballad Of Jacques Le Mere’ and ‘Love Is Bigger Than The Whole Wide World’.  ‘Jacques Le Mere’ also appeared on the HUMAN INSTINCT ‘Snatmin Cuthin’ album (Zodiac 1972).
