(Hear) 1959 Rovers Jazz Instrumental 45 on Sage (Orange Juice / Wooten Toot)
Rovers – “Orange Juice” b/w “Wooten Toot” (Sage 301). Great 1959 jazz instrumental on this west coast label. “Orange Juice features hot guitar and piano work while the flip features strong sax lead with guitar exchanges. Although unlisted, evidence suggests the group features guitarist Roy Lanham and some members of his group the Whippoorwills (both cuts are penned by “Lanham” and Red Wooten was Roy’s bass player.) In addition, Lanham recorded for Sage and the Rovers other 45 on the label lists 4 composers, including “Rhods” and Lanham – Dusty Rhodes was also a member of Roy Lanham’s group.) Regardless, some fantastic guitar work – just take a listen. Record is in strong VG+ condition. Postage will be paid by purchaser.
