Description
John Eaton & His Syn-Ket – “Blues Machine” b/w “Bone Dry” (Decca 32220). This is a Scarce Avant synthesizer electronic pop psych 45 by John Eaton, an American composer, MacArthur Fellow, and professor emeritus of composition at the University of Chicago. He worked with Paul Ketoff and Robert Moog during the 1960s in developing several types of synthesizers. The electronic music synthesizer on which he performs is the Syn-Ket, designed by Paolo Ketoff in 1964 at the urging of Eaton and others in residence at the American Academy in Rome. With countless hours of practice, he became a master of the Syn-Ket, a formidable achievement by which he “humanized” an electronic device. He became a leading advocate of microtonal music, thus breaking from the traditional Western notion of a 12-note scale. He later innovated a compositional genre called pocket opera, operas scored for a small cast of vocalists and a chamber group. The two cuts on this 45 were short rock improvisations performed on the Syn-Ket with an accompanying rhythm section – take a listen to a little of both sides. Record is a dj copy in strong VG+ condition. Postage will be paid by purchaser.
