Description

Somehow in 1968, NFTY (the National Federation of Temple Youth) got hard bop luminaries like Herbie Hancock, Thad Jones and Ron Carter to appear on this re-interpretation of a Jewish service. It is like synagogue at the Village Vanguard, or the Village Vanguard recast as a synagogue. Ethereal vocals, impressionistic and sublime playing from all the musicians involved, truly an oddity and a classic that, quite deservedly, was reissued a few years back.
The vinyl is pristine except for one "thump" on Side A that sounds for three rotations and doesn't overpower the music on my system. I wonder if it might not just be a pressing issue. The sleeve shows no wear and is still in the shrink.
