Description
redgarnett Store ITEM DESCRIPTION:
This beautiful LP from RCA Italiana (LM 1022, Italian pressing, plum/silver label, mono, original inner sleeve included) features the great Jascha Heifetz in Violin Sonatas by Beethoven and Mozart. He is accompanied in both by the splendid pianist Emanuel Bay.
The exact discographic details are as follows:
Beethoven: Violin Sonata No. 5 in F Major Op. 24 “Spring”
(rec. at RCA Victor Studios, Hollywood, CA, on 12 December 1947)
Wrote The Gramophone’s critic in his/review for the January 1988 issue:
“The two big sonatas, on the other hand, are boldy characterized. The Spring is, typically, one of the fastest in the business: this is a true driving Allegro, with the sap rising fast through Heifetz's intense vibrato and his firm, heavy pressure on the down-bow. He makes it clear that molto espressivo does not mean motto adagio in the slow movement: this, too, is marked by a steady sense of direction, with each carefully shaded sustained note carrying through the momentum of the whole.”

Mozart: Violin Sonata No. 8 in C Major K. 296
(rec. at RCA Victor Studios, Hollywood, CA, on 16 December 1947)

Incidentally, the lovely cover photo was taken by C. Petitti. There are informative liner notes (uncredited) on the reverse side of the jacket, printed in both Italian and English.
CONDITION:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is EXCELLENT. There is minor bumping at corners and a small sticker tear to the rear panel, but that is all. There are no seamsplits, bends, or owners' markings and the album remains solid, bright, glossy, and highly attractive – overall, an excellent collector's copy.
The condition of the LP itself is near-MINT. Although surfaces are not completely silent (and thus I have rated it NM vs. MINT), this is a fine copy and playback is superb. However, if you must have perfect surfaces, then please do not buy this LP – this is a lovely collector's copy.
PLEASE NOTE:
This LP has been carefully cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine. All LPs are provided with a new Nagaoka (or Nagaoka-style) inner sleeve.
