This beautiful LP from RCA (LM-2186, US pressing, plum shaded dog label, mono) features violinist Jascha Heifetz, violist William Primrose, and cellist Gregor Piatigorsky in brilliant performances of  2 of Beethoven’s String Trios Op. 9, set down at Radio Recorders Studios, Hollywood, on 27-29 March 1957.

The exact contents are as follows:

Beethoven: Trio for Violin, Viola, and Cello No. 3 in G Major Op. 9 No. 1

Beethoven: Trio for Violin, Viola, and Cello No. 5 in  C minor Op. 9 No. 3

Some may carp at the febrile intensity of the performances, but they are songful as well, and all three musicans are at the absolute peak of form, imbuing the music with verve and poetry.

There are fine liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket by by Charles O’Connell – printed in English only. The amazing cover art was executed by Georges Schreiber.

CONDITION:

The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.

The condition of the jacket is VERY GOOD. There is a 1 ½” split to the lower-right corner, as well as slight edgewear and aging. However, the album remains solid, bright, glossy, and highly attractive – overall, a very good collector's copy.

The condition of the LP itself is EXCELLENT. Although the surfaces are not absolutely silent, really this is a fine copy and playback is superb, close to NM. Those requiring a flawless or near-MINT copy are advised to look elsewhere. Overall, this is an excellent collector's copy.
