Herbie Hancock's 'Thrust' is a landmark jazz-funk album released in 1974. It serves as a direct follow-up to the highly influential 'Head Hunters' and continues to build upon that successful sound. The album solidified Hancock's position at the forefront of the fusion movement.
This record features a blend of synthesiser-driven soundscapes and intricate, infectious rhythmic grooves. Tracks like 'Palm Grease' and 'Actual Proof' exemplify its innovative approach to jazz, funk, and electronic music. The ensemble performance showcases exceptional interplay between the musicians.
The album features the core members of the Head Hunters band, including Bennie Maupin on reeds, Paul Jackson on bass, Mike Clark on drums, and Bill Summers on percussion. 'Thrust' remains a pivotal work in Herbie Hancock's discography and a classic within the jazz fusion genre. Its influence can be heard in countless subsequent funk and electronic productions.
